Last updated: 7 September 2026

1. Who we are

The Chiang Mai Brief ("we", "us", "our") is an independent English-language publication and city guide covering Chiang Mai, Thailand. This policy explains what information we collect through chiangmaibrief.com, why we collect it, and what we do with it.

2. Information we collect

We keep data collection deliberately minimal. We may collect:

  • Your email address, if you subscribe to our newsletter
  • Your name, email address and message, if you contact us through the site
  • Any additional details you choose to include in a message to us
  • Standard analytics data such as pages viewed, approximate location and referring site

We do not require you to create an account, and we do not ask for payment details, because the site is free to read.

3. How we use it

  • To send the newsletter you subscribed to
  • To reply to messages and tips you send us
  • To understand which articles are useful so we can publish more of what readers need
  • To maintain and improve the website

4. Sharing

We do not sell your personal information and we do not share your email address with advertisers. We use third-party service providers to operate the site — including hosting, email delivery and form processing — and those providers process data only on our behalf. We may disclose information where required by law.

5. Cookies and analytics

The site may use cookies and similar technologies to understand how it is used and to remember basic preferences. You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings; the site will continue to work if you do.

6. Your rights

You can, at any time:

  • Ask what personal information we hold about you
  • Ask us to correct information that is wrong
  • Ask us to delete your information
  • Unsubscribe from the newsletter using the link in any issue

Email hello@chiangmaibrief.com and we will action the request.

7. Data retention and security

We keep newsletter subscriber data until you unsubscribe, and correspondence for as long as it is useful to the conversation. We apply reasonable technical measures to protect the information we hold, though no online service can promise absolute security.

8. External links

Our guides link to restaurants, hospitals, government sites, transport operators and other third parties. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes take effect when posted here, and the date at the top will reflect the most recent revision.

10. Contact
